Welcome to the site where it's always the summer of '88. This website is about Fame City Waterworks, a now-defunct west Houston waterpark with an adjacent amusement mall (first Fame City and now "Funplex").
It comes up every once in awhile, someone reminiscing about the old Fame City, wishing there were more pictures and info, people getting nostalgic over the old place. Doesn't help that the water park has been washed off the face of the earth. Web searches turn up very little, and aside from a few places where former employees get together, Fame City has all but vanished. That's why we made this site.
With a large wave pool, a lazy river, speed slides, a kiddie area, and one of the first "Master Blasters", Fame City Waterworks was THE choice for people who lived in the west part of town. Operating from the mid-eighties until 2006, Fame City Waterworks and its successor Adventure Bay was a summer staple in the community. For many of us who used to go there it represents a carefree time in our lives before all those bills, kids, idiot bosses, and -- well, forget all that because you're back at Fame City! For the people that worked there we get the impression that it was generally a nice place to work and a fun environment. If working at a place like this isn't a good time I don't know what is.

Watch in amazement as it closes for the winter, opens for the summer, sits dormant for awhile, and then gets quickly repurposed right before your eyes.

For those of you with fuzzy memories "Fame City" was the entertainment complex and "Waterworks" was the waterpark situated in the east lot. Sometimes we use the other F-word, Funplex, just for simplicity's sake since that's what it's been known as for the past 12 years or so. Regardless, "Fame City", which predates the water park, surprisingly still stands even today (though it's changed hands a few times with varying results in quality). Home of nightclubs, a movie theater, bowling alley, arcade games, food, rides, and more.
